âYou are cut deep. The important thing is to clean it before it festers.â Livia was so efficient without having ever stepped foot in a medical school. Before I knew it, I was bandaged up and feeling like I may survive the dayâs events.
âThank you, Livia.â
âNo, thank you. I will always be grateful for your help. I am just so sorry for what happened. Eliâs son has been brought in for questioning by the village counsel. You will never have to worry about him again. Even Eli extends his apologies. Now, you must go get some rest when weâre done. The traveling back here drained much of your blood. My husband knows nothing of how wounds should be treated. I am still aggravated that he wrapped your arm in an old blanket. He knows better than that. Thatâs how he lost half his leg many moons ago.â
âNo worries. Iâm just glad to be back home.â I took in Aidaâs house again as Livia and Aida fussed over me. It did actually feel like home, and I smiled to myself at the comfort it brought me. On top of that, I saved my own hide without my soldier friends. Maybe I am not so much a damsel in distress. Either way my thoughts went to Eriksen. If anything, I wanted so badly to share with him my heroism.
I stood on weak legs while Livia braced me under my arm. I had lost a lot of blood. âMaybe I should sit back down.â
Aida motioned for me back to the wooden bench. âKyla, I will send for food.â
Livia smiled. âThat is probably for the best before she takes rest. Iâll stay here with her.â
It seemed like Aida jogged out of the room. My head was spinning, so everything played on my eyes funny.
Livia reached into a bowl and pulled out a damp cloth. âHere, my dear. Your face looks gaunt.â She wiped gingerly with the rag across my clammy skin. It didnât help the attack that was brewing.
âIâm fine. I just get sick like this when I get stressed or injured.â I didnât know if I said stressed or injured correctly in their language. I didnât care at that point. I was falling into another panic attack. The second one since we found ourselves in this time. I should count myself lucky, I had been through a lot and had only suffered two so far. And the fact that these two women said something about losing a lot of blood, didnât help. I think I freaked.
Aida came running back in with bread. I broke off a piece and tried to chew it, but my mouth was too dry. I couldnât swallow it. She then handed me some water and addressed Livia with a higher pitched voice. âIs it the wound?â
Livia wiped my face again. âNo. Something else.â
I bent over at the waist to lay over my knees and started my slow breathing techniques.
